$1.6 billion of exports from Istanbul Exporters’ Associations

Istanbul Exporters’ Associations made exports of approximately $1 billion 640 million in the first two months of the year with more than 20 thousand companies operating in different cities that are members of seven exporters’ unions.

According to the statement of Istanbul Exporters’ Associations (IIB), Istanbul exporters sold products to 181 countries and their share in the country’s exports was 4.9%.

In the first two months of the year, Istanbul Exporters’ Associations made the highest export value to Iraq with $100 million. Most of the poultry, animal products, grains, pulses, oilseeds and products were sold to Iraq.

After Iraq, IIB exported the most to the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom and Russia in terms of value.

In the exports made by IIB, grains, pulses, oil seeds, furniture, paper products to the USA, hazelnuts and their products to Germany, cereals, pulses, oil seeds and products came to the fore. Furniture, paper and forest products and grains, pulses, oilseeds and their products came to the fore in the United Kingdom, while grains, pulses, oil seeds and their products and furniture, paper and forest products came to the fore in Russia.

On the basis of country groups, the region to which IIB exports the most was the European Union countries with $359 million. Exports to European Union countries increased by 0.7% in the first two months of 2023 compared to the same period of the previous year.

Istanbul Exporters’ Associations exported $820.5 million in February. The Union made the most exports to Iraq, the United States and Germany in February.

Istanbul Furniture, Paper and Forest Products Exporters’ Association, one of the unions under the IIB, exported $567 million in the first two months of 2023. Istanbul Cereals, Pulses, Oilseeds and Products Exporters’ Association (İHBİR) realized an export of $563 million with an increase of 13.5% compared to the same period of the previous year. Istanbul Fisheries and Animal Products Exporters’ Association (İSHİB) exported $176 million and Istanbul Hazelnut and Animal Products Exporters’ Association (IFMIB) exported $131 million. Istanbul Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association exported $77 million, Ship, Yacht and Services Exporters’ Association (GYHİB) exported approximately $67 million. Istanbul Dried Fruits and Products Exporters’ Association (KUMIB) realized an export of approximately $47 million with an increase of 5.2% compared to the same period of the previous year.

Mujdat Sezer, Head of the Coordinator of Istanbul Exporters’ Associations, whose views were included in the statement, stated that Turkiye was going through a difficult period due to earthquakes and still continues to do so.

“Of course, the reflection of this situation on our export figures was inevitable. As the exporter family, we rushed to the region with all our strength to heal the wounds of the earthquake victims, and on the other hand, we continued our efforts to increase our exports. We are aware that we need to work and export more than ever before. Istanbul Exporters’ Associations are planning to organize nearly 60 events in 25 countries in the new year. 25 of these events will be held in line with the Ministry of Commerce’s export strategy for distant countries. IIB will organize the national participation of the 15 most important fairs that will take place in 10 different countries in the new year.”
