Turkish carpet manufacturers earned$ 1 billion 981 million 284 thousand from 407 million 319 thousand square meters of carpets exported in 9 months.
According to the information compiled from the Southeastern Anatolian Exporters’ Associations (GAİB), Turkish carpet manufacturers increased their exports to $1 billion 981 million 284 thousand by selling 407 million 319 thousand square meters of carpets to 183 countries and free zones in the 9 months of the year.
Exporters earned $1 billion 628 million from machine carpets, $306 million 953 thousand from tufted carpets, $40 million 125 thousand from handmade carpets and $6 million 204 thousand from rugs.
Turkish carpet manufacturers sent the most carpets to the USA with $589 million 618 thousand. Iraq followed the USA with $121 million 475 thousand and England with $105 million 396 thousand.
2 of the 3 carpets exported are from Gaziantep
When the province distribution of carpet exports is analyzed, Gaziantep ranked first with foreign sales of $1 billion 356 million 871 thousand. This city was followed by Istanbul with $455 million 164 thousand and Usak with $48 million 379 thousand.
Zeynal Abidin Kaplan, President of the Southeast Anatolian Carpet Exporters’ Association (GAHIB), stated that Gaziantep, especially Gaziantep, and Istanbul and Usak have an important position in carpet production.
Stating that Gaziantep has a carpet-making culture from the past and it continues to develop, Kaplan said, “Gaziantep ranks first in carpet production in Turkiye and meets 69.7% of exports. In other words, 2 out of 3 carpets exported go from Gaziantep. The USA is the most demanded for Turkish carpets. We export important carpets from Turkiye to the west. We provide significant income from carpets to our country. In 9 months of the year, we brought in foreign currency close to $2 billion in the Turkish carpet industry. This makes us happy.”
