100 Applications from 40 Companies for Turkey’s 1200 MW Wind Energy YEKA Tenders

According to a statement from the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, a new era in renewable energy has begun as the first YEKA (Renewable Energy Resource Area) applications were received under a newly developed tender model.

For the 1200-megawatt capacity spread across five YEKA wind energy areas located in Edirne, Kirklareli, and Sivas, 40 companies submitted a total of 100 applications.

A New Phase in Renewable Energy

Turkey’s installed capacity for wind and solar energy, which was nearly zero 15 years ago, has now surpassed 33,000 megawatts.

Electricity produced from wind and solar energy is now sufficient to meet the annual needs of all households in the country. Under the “Renewable Energy 2035” roadmap, Turkey has entered a new phase in its renewable energy journey.

As part of this roadmap, the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources introduced a new tender model for YEKA areas. The first tenders under this model received significant interest.

For solar energy, applications for an 800-megawatt YEKA solar energy tender will be accepted on January 27.

Process Overview

Applications were received by a commission established by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources. Eligible participants included legal entities established as joint-stock or limited companies under the Turkish Commercial Code, as well as foreign companies with corporate status.

During the application process, submission envelopes were opened one by one in the presence of participants, and it was checked whether they included a letter of guarantee and financial offer.

Out of the submitted applications, 100 proposals containing the required documents have now moved to the evaluation stage. After this phase, the Ministry will announce the locations and dates for the tenders.
