108-Year-Old German Tractor Company Egelseer Traktoren Enters Insolvency Proceedings

German agricultural machinery company Egelseer Traktoren GmbH, a 108-year-old tractor and spare parts business based in Fürth, Bavaria, has entered preliminary insolvency proceedings amid growing pressure in the agricultural equipment sector.

The company filed for insolvency at the Fürth District Court, which appointed attorney Joachim Exner as provisional insolvency administrator. Despite the financial difficulties, company operations are continuing during the restructuring process.

Founded in 1918, Egelseer Traktoren became well known in Germany for the sale, maintenance, and spare parts distribution of Schlüter tractors, a historic German tractor brand popular among vintage tractor enthusiasts. Following the end of Schlüter’s production in 1992, the company focused heavily on replacement parts and servicing for classic models.

According to German media reports, declining sales of tractor components and a broader slowdown in the agricultural machinery industry contributed to the company’s financial troubles. While workshop and repair services reportedly remained active, reduced demand and increasing economic pressure affected overall profitability.

Managing Director Dietmar Helm described the insolvency filing as a carefully considered decision, emphasizing that customer services, repairs, and sales operations are continuing without interruption for now. The company currently employs 27 workers, whose salaries are temporarily protected under Germany’s insolvency compensation system.

Industry observers say the case reflects broader difficulties facing Germany’s agricultural machinery and land technology sector, where businesses are struggling with rising operating costs, high capital requirements, and weaker investment activity among farmers. Analysts warn that more companies in the sector could face similar challenges in the coming months.
