132.3 Billion Lira Spent via Cards During Eid al-Adha

During the Eid al-Adha period, encompassing the day before and the four days of the holiday, 216 million card transactions resulted in a total of 132.3 billion Turkish Lira in payments.

According to the Interbank Card Center’s (BKM) data on card payments for this year’s Eid al-Adha, card payments increased by 93% compared to the Eid al-Adha period in 2023.

During this period, the market sector was the highest spending sector, accounting for 22% of total card payments, followed by the clothing sector at 12%, fuel stations at 10%, the food sector at 10%, and various food sectors at 8%.

Sectors with the Highest Increase in Card Payments

Comparing card payments made during this year’s Eid al-Adha with the previous year, the jewelry sector saw the highest increase at 137%. The clothing sector followed with a 127% increase, and the car rental sector saw a 116% rise. Additionally, the market sector increased by 110%, and the health products/cosmetics sector rose by 108%.

Daily Distribution of Card Payments

Data shows that on the day before Eid, 45.4 billion Lira in card payments were made, accounting for nearly half of the total payments during the holiday period. The busiest hour for card transactions on the day before Eid was between 18:00 and 19:00, with the highest number of transactions occurring at 18:12.

During Eid al-Adha, 94% of the expenditures were made domestically, while 6% were made internationally. Domestic spending during the 2024 Eid al-Adha rose by 94% to 124.4 billion Lira, while international spending increased by 84% to 7.9 billion Lira.
