$14 million income from apricot kernel exports

In the 10-month period of the year, 3 thousand 963 tons of registered apricot kernels were exported from Malatya and a revenue of $14 million 677 thousand was obtained.

Ramazan Ozcan, Chairman of Malatya Commodity Exchange, said that apricot grown in the city is an important agricultural product for export.

Pointing out that both the fruit and the product of the apricot constitute an economic value, Ozcan said, “The kernel has turned into a very valuable export product. In October of this year, we exported 648 tons of apricot kernels (inside), and we generated an income of $2 million 113 thousand. The most important factor in kernel export is American almond. The American almond is one of the products with a very high yield in the crustacean snack group. However, apricot kernels become the most important competitor of American almonds at every opportunity.”

Noting that the core prices vary in the market, Ozcan said:

“In the first 10 months, we have earned $14 million 677 thousand in return for the export of 3 thousand 963 tons of apricot kernels. We are struggling to bring the kernel exports to a good point until the end of the year. Due to the decline in the prices of American almonds, there may be a partial decline in our kernel exports. However, when we look at the income section, there is no problem. At the core, our most important buyers for us are Germany and Italy.”
