Elon Musk’s SpaceX is preparing to invest $2 billion in Musk’s AI company, xAI. It is reported that SpaceX already uses xAI’s chatbot, Grok, to support customer service for its Starlink internet service and is planning further collaboration.
According to a Wall Street Journal report citing investors close to SpaceX, the company has agreed to invest $2 billion in Musk’s artificial intelligence venture, xAI. The investment is said to be part of the $5 billion equity raise announced by Morgan Stanley at the end of June. SpaceX is currently using xAI’s chatbot Grok for customer service support for its Starlink internet service and plans to expand the partnership further.
Elon Musk has never hesitated to leverage his various companies to support each other. This will be SpaceX’s first investment in xAI and one of the largest investments it has made in another company.
xAI was founded by Elon Musk in March 2023, with the aim of understanding the true nature of the universe. xAI’s work includes AI products such as Grok and PromptIDE. SpaceX, officially Space Exploration Technologies Corporation, is another company founded by Musk in 2002 to help usher in the era of commercial spaceflight.
