2022 exports of Istanbul reached $100 billion

The exports of companies from Istanbul increased by 12% in 2022 compared to 2021 and reached $99.4 billion.

Having an important position in global trade, companies in Istanbul continued to deliver their products to all over the world in 2022. All sectors operating in Istanbul increased their capacities last year in order to meet the incoming demands.

According to the data of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM), the export sales of companies from Istanbul increased by 12% in 2022 compared to 2021 and reached $99.4 billion.

Istanbul exported $19.2 billion, Kocaeli followed with $16.2 billion, Izmir with $13.9 billion, Ankara with $11.6 billion, Gaziantep with $10.5 billion, Manisa with $5.2 billion, Sakarya with $4.9 billion, Denizli with $4.7 billion, and Hatay with $3.6.

The share of companies from Istanbul, which delivered their products to 234 points in the world last year, in Turkiye’s exports was 39.1%.

Companies from Istanbul made the highest increase in exports

Last year, companies from Istanbul realized the highest increase in exports. Exports of companies from Istanbul increased by $10 billion 649 million in 2022 compared to 2021.

Ankara with $2 billion 268 million, Kocaeli with $2 billion 190 million, Izmir with $1 billion 703 million, Bursa with $931 million 765 thousand, Adana with $517 million 103 thousand, Gaziantep with $430 million 440 thousand, with $398 million 436 thousand Mersin was followed by Konya with $266 million 705 thousand and Kayseri with $248 million 972 thousand.

In this period, Adana realized $3 billion, Mersin $2 billion 985 million, Konya $3 billion 262 million, Kayseri $3 billion 145 million.

The chemical industry made the most exports.

On a sectoral basis, companies operating within the scope of chemical substances and products made the most exports in Istanbul last year. Chemicals and products companies in the city realized exports of $17 billion 657 million in 2022.

The chemical materials and products industry was followed by the ready-made clothing and apparel industry with $14 billion 718 million, the steel industry with $10 billion 201 million, the ferrous and non-ferrous metals with $7 billion 818 million, and the electrical and electronics industries with $7 billion 668 million.

This reveals that the industrial sector has a significant share in Istanbul’s exports.

The most demand came from Germany

Last year, the highest demand for the products of companies from Istanbul came from Germany.

In 2022, $8 billion 352 million of foreign sales were made from Istanbul to Germany.

Germany was followed by the USA with $5 billion 679 million, the United Kingdom with $5 billion, Italy with $4 billion 418 million, and Spain with $3 billion 910 million.
