57% of Turkiye’s exports were carried out by sea

In the first 4 months of the year, 57% of Turkiye’s exports were carried out by sea. The sea route was followed by land and rail, respectively.

According to the compilation made by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), Turkiye’s exports reached $80 billion 869 million in the January-April period.

During this period, most of the foreign trade was carried out by sea. The value of the exports carried by the ships was $45 billion 735 million 344 thousand. Last year, that figure was $50.3 billion. The share of the sea route in total exports was 57%.

After the sea route, the land route was used the most in foreign trade.

In the first 4 months, exports by land were $27 billion 65 million 135 thousand. The share of this mode of transportation in the total was 33.5%.

11.3% increase in air transportation

In the said period, the use of airlines in exports increased despite the partial decline in total foreign sales. Export revenues made by air in the first 4 months increased by 11.3% compared to the same period of the previous year and rose to $7 billion 22 million 826 thousand.

On the other hand, there was a decrease in railway transportation in parallel with the decrease in total exports. In the January-April period, the income of exports carried by trains amounted to $794 million 828 thousand. Other export revenues were $251 million.

Sea transportation took the largest share in imports

In the aforementioned period, Turkiye’s imports of $124 billion 313 million were taken by sea with a large share of $63 billion 722 million. It was followed by the highway with $22.8 billion, the airline with $19.1 billion, and the railroad with $746.5 million. Other modes of transportation approached $18 billion.
