Alibaba has introduced a new, upgraded version of its open-source AI model Qwen, launching a consumer-oriented chatbot as the company accelerates its presence in the global artificial intelligence race. With this new product, Alibaba aims to further integrate AI into everyday life and significantly expand user adoption.
The Chinese tech giant announced that the enhanced chatbot—built on the most advanced version of the Qwen large language model—is now available in China as both a mobile app and a web-based platform. An international version will be released at a later date.
Over 600 Million Global Downloads
Alibaba stated that the improved version of Qwen, which has recorded more than 600 million downloads worldwide, is designed to function as both a conversational assistant and a task-oriented personal helper.
The launch comes after Alibaba’s commitment to invest over 380 billion yuan (53 billion USD) in cloud and AI infrastructure over the next three years.
China’s AI Sector Rapidly Advancing
With Qwen3-Max ranking highly in global benchmarks, China’s AI ecosystem is becoming increasingly competitive on the international stage. Companies such as DeepSeek, Kimi, Zhipu.AI, and MiniMax are joining Alibaba in strengthening China’s presence in the global AI landscape.
From “Learning from Humans” to “Helping Humans”
Alibaba emphasized that the new consumer version of Qwen marks a shift from AI merely “learning from humans” to actively helping humans. The model will be integrated into daily-use services including maps, food delivery, travel, shopping, and healthcare, making it a more functional and accessible tool for everyday life.
