Anchovy worth $3.9 million was exported to 20 countries from Turkiye

Anchovy was sold to 20 countries for $3 million 880 thousand in the January-April period of the year.

Eastern Black Sea Exporters Union Deputy Chairman of the Board Ahmet Hamdi Gurdogan said that 656 tons of anchovy were exported from the country in the first 4 months of the year.

Stating that an income of $3 million 880 thousand 628 was obtained from these exports, Gurdogan stated that anchovy exports decreased by 7% on amount basis and increased by 5% on value basis compared to the same period of the previous year, with an income of $3 million 701 thousand 436 corresponding to 703 tons.

Stating that France ranks first among the 20 countries where anchovy is sold, Gurdogan said, “This period, anchovy was exported from our country to France for $1 million 475 thousand 294, to Belgium for $968 thousand 258 and to the USA for $413 thousand 635. “

Drawing attention to the diversity of countries in anchovy exports, Gurdogan stated that anchovies were also sold to Sweden, Iraq, Lebanon, Malaysia and Somalia during this period.

Gurdogan said that a total of $137 thousand 419 of anchovy was sent from Trabzon to Germany, Sweden and Canada in a 4-month period.

Stating that there is not enough fishing this season due to the small size of anchovy, and that sustainability is very important in anchovy as in all products, Gurdogan said, “Anchovy will reach a larger size if a one-season anchovy hunting ban is imposed for adequate and sustainable anchovy fishing. As anchovies reach a larger size, quality products and therefore processed products will be obtained, so this will reflect positively on exports.”
