Turkiye’s honey exports increased by 75%

Turkiye’s honey exports in the first half of the year increased by 75% compared to the same period of the previous year.

In the January-June 2022 period, 8,892 tons of honey were exported to 46 countries. A revenue of $23 million 829 thousand 670 was obtained from this export.

Accordingly, the first 6-month exports increased by 134% in quantity and 75% in value compared to the same period of 2021, which generated $13 million 597 thousand 813 in return for 3 thousand 800 tons of honey.

The USA, Germany and Spain were the countries with the highest exports.

The USA ranked first in honey exports with $7 million 904 thousand 362. This country was followed by Germany with $3 million 640 thousand 94 and Spain with $3 million 378 thousand 193.

Turkiye also sold honey to different Slovenia, Peru, Maldives Islands, Denmark, Lebanon, Yemen, Iraq, Barbados, Mauritania, Liberia, Bangladesh, North Macedonia, Taiwan and Portugal from the same period last year.

“It is important to focus on the production of value-added and branded products”

DKIB Chairman of the Board Saffet Kalyoncu said that Turkiye closed the 6 months of the year with an increase in honey exports.

Expressing that honey is a product that contributes significantly to the country’s economy, Kalyoncu said that Turkiye has very important potentials for honey production in terms of flora diversity.

Emphasizing that they have high expectations from honey exports in this context, Kalyoncu noted that it is important to focus on the production of value-added and branded products in order to reach much higher figures.

Pointing out that it is also important to brand and export honey according to each flower type, Kalyoncu said, “According to this situation, our exporters and growers should work immediately and attach importance to the export of higher value-added products.”
