Technologies developed by ASELSAN will increase the capabilities of the modernized Preveze class submarines.
The “critical design” phase, which is one of the important milestones within the scope of the Preveze Class Submarine Half-Life Modernization Project (PREVEZE-YOM), signed on February 8, 2019 between the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB) and the ASELSAN-STM-HAVELSAN-ASFAT business partnership, has been completed.
ASELSAN, which signed a contract worth ₺512.4 million for its responsibilities within the scope of the project, started deliveries that will spread until 2027.
In the PREVEZE-YOM Project, where 4 Preveze class submarines in the Naval Forces inventory will be modernized, the critical design phase was approved by the SSB after the integration and acceptance of the Warship Automatic Identification (WAIS) and Internal Communications Systems, which should be delivered early for the TCG Preveze submarine.
Domestic and national design and production of sub-units with important tasks such as combat systems integration given to ASELSAN will be carried out, thereby minimizing foreign dependency in these areas. Within the scope of the project, submarine sonar, satellite communication system, integrated communication system, navigation radar and electronic support systems were designed and produced by ASELSAN.
Within the scope of the project, the company also provides Guided Missile Weapon Control and Domestic Warship Automatic Identification Systems. ASELSAN will also apply absorbent materials to all masts on the sail in order to make it difficult to detect submarines by enemy elements by providing low visibility.
The PREVEZE-YOM Project covers the modernization of the TCG Preveze, TCG Sakarya, TCG 18 Mart and TCG Anafartalar submarines, which are in the inventory of the Naval Forces Command.
ASELSAN Chairman of the Board and General Manager Haluk Gorgun stated that the PREVEZE-YOM Project is the most comprehensive modernization project of the Naval Forces, and said, “A very critical stage has been successfully passed in the project, of which we are a business partner under the leadership of the SSB. Our high-end technologies, which are the product of ASELSAN engineering, undertake very important tasks in this project. ASELSAN’s most advanced technologies are used in our modernized submarines, which will be a serious force multiplier for our navy. With the power of our national engineering, we are ready for any task for the survival and security of the “blue homeland”.”
