Asian stock markets close Monday with gains

Hang Seng stock exchange best performer of the day, rises 2.35%

Major stock exchanges in Asia closed Monday in the positive territory on the expectation that recession concerns would ease the tightening policies of global central banks.

The Asia Dow, which includes blue-chip companies in the region, added 60 points, or 1.87%, to reach 3,274 at 1007 GMT.

Tokyo’s Nikkei 225 stock exchange increased 379.3 points, or 1.43%, to 26,871 points.

The Hang Seng, the benchmark for blue-chip stocks trading on the Hong Kong stock exchange, was the best performer of the day, rising 510.5 points, or 2.35%, to 22,229.

China’s Shanghai Stock Exchange climbed 29.4 points,or 0.88%, to close at 3,379 points.

Chinese major industrial firms’ profits grew 1%year-on-year in the first five months of 2022, according to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics.

The Indian Sensex benchmark gained 452.2 points, or 0.86%, to end the day at 53,180.

The Singapore index went up by 25.9 points, or 0.83%, to finish at 3,137 points.
