Turkish poultry producer Banvit announced that the Savings Deposit Insurance Fund (TMSF) has been appointed as a supervisory trustee (denetim kayyumu) for the company, according to a disclosure filed with Türkiye’s Public Disclosure Platform (KAP).
In its statement, Banvit said it had previously informed investors on June 12 that a judicial decision had been issued under Article 133 of the Turkish Criminal Procedure Code, imposing a supervisory trusteeship measure on 13 companies as part of an investigation launched by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.
The company stated that it has now formally received the ruling of the Istanbul 5th Criminal Court of Peace through TMSF. Under the decision, TMSF has been appointed as supervisory trustee, and the validity of decisions and actions taken by Banvit’s management will be subject to the trustee’s approval.
Background to the Investigation
The appointment follows a broader investigation into Türkiye’s poultry industry. Authorities announced on June 12 that 13 companies were placed under supervisory trusteeship as part of a probe into alleged practices that may have disrupted market competition and contributed to unfair price increases in the white meat sector.
According to government officials, simultaneous operations were carried out across eight provinces, resulting in the detention of dozens of suspects. Authorities said the trusteeship measure was intended to ensure that food supply chains remain uninterrupted and that corporate activities continue in a transparent and auditable manner during the investigation.
Operations Continue
Banvit emphasized in its earlier disclosures that the company continues to operate within the framework of its legal obligations and that it will keep investors informed of any material developments in accordance with capital markets regulations.
The appointment of a supervisory trustee does not transfer management control of the company but places corporate decisions under additional oversight pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
