Brazilian WEG Announces €28 Million Investment in Turkey

Brazilian energy and automation company WEG has announced a new investment of €28 million in Turkey. WEG S.A. plans to establish a gearbox manufacturing facility, a power transmission device used in mechanical systems, in Manisa. The investment aims to meet the growing demand in the gearbox market and increase the company’s production capacity for components. The project is expected to be completed by 2027, boosting WEG’s gearbox production outside Brazil.

The new factory will be set up in a 12,000-square-meter building in Manisa. It will integrate sales operations with industrial electric motors manufactured in Turkey, alongside the company’s gearbox factory in Austria.

Currently employing 750 people in Turkey, WEG Group Turkey aims to create 150 additional job opportunities with this investment.

A Strategic Move
Rodrigo Fumo, General Manager of WEG Industrial Motors, highlighted the growth potential in Turkey and the region, stating:

“We are optimistic about the growth potential of the industrial gearbox market in Turkey and across Europe. This investment is a strategic step in expanding our presence in the sector, reinforcing our commitment to providing innovative solutions, service excellence, and fast delivery tailored to our customers’ needs.”

Over 20 Years of Operations in Turkey
WEG has been selling its products in Turkey for over 20 years through local distributors. In 2021, the company established its local commercial structure and opened a new electric motor factory in Dilovasi, Kocaeli, in 2022. Recently, WEG expanded its operations further by acquiring Volt Elektrik Motorlari (Volt WEG Group), a company specializing in the production of industrial and commercial electric motors.

Founded in 1961, WEG operates as a global electro-electronic equipment company, focusing on capital goods such as electric motors, gearboxes, drives and controls, energy generation and transformers, electrification products and systems, automation, and digitalization.

The company develops solutions aligned with major trends in energy efficiency, renewable energy, and electric mobility. With 64 production facilities in 17 countries and operations in over 135 countries, WEG employs more than 45,000 people worldwide. In 2023, WEG reported net revenues of $32.5 billion, with 52.9% of its income coming from international markets.
