The Mediterranean region stood out by carrying out 62% of Turkiye’s fresh fruit and vegetable exports

Mersin, Antalya and Hatay shouldered 62% of the $367.1 million of exports of the Turkish fresh fruit and vegetable sector in January. Mersin’s fresh fruit and vegetable exports increased by 7.1% in January compared to the same period last year, reaching $95.9 million.

Turkiye’s fresh fruit and vegetable exports in January increased by 13.2% compared to the same period last year.

Exporters from Mersin, Antalya and Hatay carried out 62% of the $367.1 million export of fresh fruits and vegetables in January.

Mersin’s fresh fruit and vegetable exports in January increased by 7.1% compared to the same period last year, reaching $95.9 million.

This city was followed by Antalya, which increased its exports by 10.8% in the same period and sold fresh fruits and vegetables worth $73.7 million.

Hatay’s fresh fruit and vegetable exports increased by 25.7% and reached $58.5 million.

Other provinces that came to the fore in the sector’s exports were Sirnak, Adana, Izmir, Trabzon, Istanbul, Isparta and Mugla.

Tokat and Kutahya, which did not export fresh fruits and vegetables in January last year, sold products this year and thus exports were made from 52 cities.

Fruits and vegetables were exported mostly to Russia

When the export figures of the sector on a country basis were examined, Russia came to the fore. Exports worth $81.9 million were made to this country in January.

After Russia, the highest demand for fresh fruits and vegetables came from Iraq and Romania. During this period, $48.7 million of exports were made to Iraq and $31.4 million to Romania.

These countries were followed by Ukraine, Germany, Poland, Bulgaria, India, Netherlands and Serbia.

The products of Turkish fruit and vegetable exporters found buyers from 106 points of the world during this period. This year, products were sold to Palestine, China, Cameroon, Tunisia, Ghana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Liberia, Ecuador, Mauritania, Brazil, Afghanistan, Gabon, Cuba, Sierra Leone, Gambia, Finland, Angola and Cambodia, where no exports were made in this sector in January 2023.
