In July, the number of cards increased by 15% compared to the same period of the previous year. The increase in card expenditures, on the other hand, increased by 109% and reached ₺317 billion.
According to the data of the Interbank Card Center (BKM), card payments amounting to ₺316.9 billion were made in July, while online payments were preferred for motor vehicle tax (MTV).
According to the statement made by BKM regarding the card payment data for July, at the end of July, 92.1 million credit cards, 158.6 million debit cards and 65.4 million prepaid cards are used in Turkiye.
Compared to July 2021, the number of credit cards increased by 15%, the number of debit cards by 11%, and the number of prepaid cards increased by 28%. The total number of cards reached 316.1 million, an increase of 15% compared to the same period of the previous year.
Looking at the BKM data, the total amount of payments made in July with credit cards, debit cards and prepaid cards increased by 109% compared to the same period of the previous year and reached ₺316.9 billion.
While ₺248.7 billion of these payments were made by credit cards, ₺62.3 billion of debit cards and ₺5.9 billion of prepaid cards were used.
Accordingly, the rate of growth in credit card payments compared to the same period of the previous year was 103%, and 132% in debit card payments, while this rate was 164% in payments made with prepaid cards.
MTV PAYMENT ON THE INTERNET
In July, when the second installment of MTV was paid, ₺13.9 billion was paid by cards between 1 July and 2 August in the field of “public-tax payments”, which also includes these payments.
Compared to the same period of the previous year, the growth was 82% and the average transaction amount was ₺915. Online payment was preferred for 66% of the public-tax payment made by cards, that is, ₺2 of every ₺3 card-based public-tax payment was made online.
₺44 BILLION WITH FOREIGN CARD
The increase in foreign tourist visits continued in July, and a total of ₺44 billion was paid with foreign cards.
Accordingly, there was an increase of 184% when compared to the card payment amount, which was ₺15.7 billion in the same period of the previous year. It was observed that the amount of card payments made per transaction increased from ₺965 to ₺1,628.
