
The total value of payments made with credit cards, debit cards and prepaid cards in Türkiye rose by 48 percent year-on-year in November to 2 trillion 266.3 billion liras, according to data released by the Interbank Card Center (BKM).
BKM said that as of November, the number of credit cards in Türkiye reached 142.3 million, while debit cards totaled 215.1 million and prepaid cards stood at 108.4 million. Compared with the same period last year, the number of credit cards increased by 10 percent and debit cards by 11 percent, while prepaid cards declined by 2 percent. The total number of cards rose by 8 percent to 465.8 million.
Of the total card payment volume in November, 1 trillion 932.5 billion liras was made using credit cards, 326.5 billion liras with debit cards and 7.3 billion liras with prepaid cards. Payment volumes increased by 48 percent for credit cards and 64 percent for debit cards, while prepaid card payments fell by 77 percent.
The total number of card transactions increased by 13 percent year-on-year to nearly 1.8 billion in November. Credit cards accounted for 1.018 billion transactions, debit cards for 705 million and prepaid cards for 32.4 million. Transaction volumes rose by 14 percent for credit cards and 32 percent for debit cards, while prepaid card transactions declined by 73 percent.
Online card payments also showed strong growth, rising by 47 percent to 710.7 billion liras. Online transactions accounted for 32 percent of total card payment volume. The number of online card payments increased by 4 percent to 254.2 million, representing 15 percent of all transactions.
Contactless payments continued to gain popularity. The number of contactless card payments rose by 15 percent to 1 billion 162.4 million, while the total value of contactless payments surged by 56 percent to 723.3 billion liras. In November, four out of every five in-store card payments were made using contactless technology.
