The Interbank Card Center announced the card payment data for April.
Accordingly, as of April, the number of credit cards in Turkey reached 122.1 million, debit cards 190.6 million, and prepaid cards 93.7 million.
On an annual basis, there was a 15% increase in the number of credit cards, 8% in debit cards, and 21% in prepaid cards. The total number of cards reached 406.4 million, an increase of 13%.
The total amount of payments made with credit cards, debit cards, and prepaid cards in April increased by 107% compared to the same month last year, reaching 1 trillion 127.8 billion liras.
Of the card payments, 930.4 billion liras were made with credit cards, 175.8 billion liras with debit cards, and 21.6 billion liras with prepaid cards.
On a yearly basis, there was a 120% increase in credit card payments, 56% in debit card payments, and 130% in prepaid card payments.
The amount of payments made online with cards reached 306.5 billion liras
The total number of payments made with credit cards, debit cards, and prepaid cards in April increased by 25% compared to the same month last year, reaching 1.46 billion.
Of the card payments, 823.6 million were made with credit cards, 535.6 million with debit cards, and 104.3 million with prepaid cards, with increases of 28%, 19%, and 43%, respectively.
The amount of payments made online with cards increased by 106% compared to the same month last year, reaching 306.5 billion liras. The share of online card payments in total payments was calculated as 27%.
The number of card payments made online also increased by 14%, reaching 203 million. The share of online card payments in total payment transactions was recorded as 14%.
The number of contactless payments made with cards increased by 40% to 945.3 million, and the amount increased by 148% to 356.3 billion liras.
Approximately 4 out of every 5 card payments made in-store in April were contactless.
During the Ramadan Bayram period, payments totaling 94.1 billion liras were made with cards
Payments totaling 94.1 billion liras were made with cards on the eve day and during the Ramadan Bayram period, which fell on April 9-12.
20% of total card payments were made in the market sector, which was the sector with the highest spending. This was followed by 14% in clothing, 11% in dining, 10% in gas stations, and 8% in various food sectors.
The sector with the highest increase in card payments during the holiday was accommodation, with an increase of 151%. This was followed by travel agencies with 140%, jewelry with 135%, gas stations with 132%, and construction with 122%.
On the eve day, card payments amounted to 37 billion liras, making up the majority of payments during the holiday period.
