Turkey: Commercial vehicle production increased by 14%

Automotive production decreased by 0.3% in the 11 months of this year compared to the same period of 2020 and became 1 million 144 thousand 356 units. In the said period, commercial vehicle production increased by 14%, while production in the heavy commercial vehicle group increased by 41% and in the light commercial vehicle group by 11%.

Automotive Industry Association (OSD) announced the production and export numbers and market data for January-November 2021.

Accordingly, automotive production decreased by 0.3% in the 11 months of this year compared to the same period of 2020, to 1 million 144 thousand 356 units, while automobile production decreased by 7% to 706 thousand 265 units. Together with the tractor production, the total production was 1 million 195 thousand 232 units.

In the said period, the capacity utilization rate of the automotive industry was 64%. On the basis of vehicle group, capacity utilization rates were determined as 63% for light vehicles, 63% for heavy commercial vehicles and 74% for tractors.

Commercial vehicle production increased by 14% in the 11 months of this year compared to the same period of 2020. Production in this period; increased by 41% in the heavy commercial vehicle group and 11% in the light commercial vehicle group.

On a product basis, truck production increased by 70% and minibus production by 7%, while bus production decreased by 31%. Total commercial vehicle production in the 11 months of the year was 438 thousand 91 units.

In the 11 months of the year, the commercial vehicle market increased by 18%, the light commercial vehicle market by 13% and the heavy commercial vehicle market by 57%.

TOTAL MARKET INCREASED BY 3%

In the 11 months of this year, the total market increased by 3% compared to the same period of 2020 and amounted to 706 thousand 166 units. In the said period, the automobile market decreased by 2% to 518 thousand 294 units. When the averages of the last 10 years are taken into account, while the total market decreased by 1% and the light commercial vehicle market by 5%, the automobile market increased by 0.2% and the heavy commercial vehicle market increased by 3% in the January-November period.

In the said period, the share of domestic vehicles in automobile sales was 40%, while the share of domestic vehicles in the light commercial vehicle market was 55%.

AUTOMOTIVE BECOME THE LOCOMOTIVE OF EXPORT AGAIN

In the January-November period, total automotive exports increased by 2% on unit basis compared to the same period of 2020, and reached 834 thousand 594 units, while automobile exports decreased by 6% to 507 thousand 399 units.

According to the data of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM), automotive industry exports maintained its first place with a 13% share in total exports in 11 months of the year.

In the January-November period, total automotive exports increased by 16% in dollar terms and 12% in euro terms. In this period, total automotive exports increased by $26.9 billion and automobile exports increased by 1% to $8.4 billion. On a Euro basis, automobile exports decreased by 3% to €7 billion.

In the 11 months of the year, exports of the main industry increased by 10% in dollar terms, and exports of the supply industry increased by 27%.
