Century-Old German Electrical Equipment Manufacturer Elektra Tailfingen Files for Bankruptcy

BERLIN — German electrical equipment manufacturer Elektra Tailfingen, a company with more than 100 years of history, has officially filed for bankruptcy after experiencing financial difficulties.

According to reports in the German media, the company—known for producing electrical distribution boxes and measurement systems used on construction sites—suffered a significant drop in demand due to a sharp slowdown in the construction sector.

Construction Slump and Rising Costs

The downturn in the construction industry severely affected the company’s order volume. In addition, unpredictable increases in the prices of key precious metals used in production further strained the firm’s financial position.

125 Employees Affected

Elektra Tailfingen employs around 125 workers, who were informed about the bankruptcy during a company meeting. Reports indicated that employee salaries are secured until April under the insolvency process.

Cyberattack Added Financial Pressure

Another factor that reportedly contributed to the company’s financial challenges was a cyberattack in 2025, which placed additional pressure on both operations and finances.

With a history spanning more than a century and operations reaching international markets, Elektra Tailfingen built its reputation through the production of power distribution panels and measurement systems commonly used at construction sites.

The company’s long-term future will depend on the outcome of the bankruptcy proceedings and potential restructuring efforts.
