IZMIR — Akfem Sanayi İnşaat ve Ticaret AŞ, the company undertaking the construction of the seven-story extension building of Eşrefpaşa Hospital, owned by the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, has applied for a concordat due to financial difficulties. The court has granted the company and its owner, Göksel Güven, a three-month temporary concordat period.
Akfem İnşaat, based in İzmir’s Karşıyaka district, applied to the Karşıyaka Commercial Court of First Instance seeking protection while it restructures its finances. The court’s temporary concordat decision took effect on August 12, 2026.
Hospital Project Worth TRY 549 Million
Akfem is responsible for the construction of the additional service building of Eşrefpaşa Hospital, which was destroyed in the 2020 İzmir earthquake. The project was awarded through a tender for TRY 549 million.
Construction of the approximately 11,000-square-meter, seven-story facility began in July 2024. The project is reportedly nearing completion of its structural works, while medical equipment is expected to be installed before the facility opens for service in 2027.
Company Active in Infrastructure and Energy
Akfem İnşaat entered the construction industry through hydroelectric power plant projects and later expanded into infrastructure and energy investments. Its activities include dam construction, drinking water and wastewater facilities, power transmission lines and transformer substations.
The company also has wind and solar power plant projects in its portfolio, alongside various infrastructure investments.
During the three-month temporary period, the court will assess the company’s financial condition and the terms of its concordat application.
