A company founded in Sarıyer, Istanbul, by three foreign partners has attracted attention in Colombia after ranking among the country’s top gas producers through its role as a contractor for Canadian energy company NG Energy International Corp.
According to a report published by Colombian news outlet Las 2 Orillas, MKMS Energy—which operates as a subcontractor for NG Energy—has become Colombia’s eighth-largest natural gas producer based on daily output.
Strong Production Figures in 2025
The report stated that MKMS Enerji Anonim Ortaklığı produced an average of 8.7 million cubic feet of natural gas per day during the January–September 2025 period.
Founded in Sarıyer by Foreign Partners
Turkish corporate records show that a company under the same name, MKMS Enerji, was established in 2016 and is headquartered in Sarıyer, Istanbul. While there is no publicly available information on the company’s current executive leadership, the firm is known to have been founded by three foreign partners: Daniel Umana Echavarría, R. Mendierta Galindi, and D. Ignacia Lopez.
Operating NG Energy’s Colombia Assets
According to Las 2 Orillas, the Sarıyer-based company manages NG Energy International Corp.’s operations in Colombia. NG Energy is a Canada-based energy company whose former CEO, Serafino Iacono, played a key role in facilitating MKMS Energy’s involvement as a contractor in the country.
Iacono served as CEO of NG Energy until 2024 and was instrumental in establishing the operational partnership. Following his resignation as chairman in 2024, his direct involvement in the project ended. He currently holds only a minority stake and has no operational role in the business.
Gas Production in La Guajira
MKMS Energy is currently producing natural gas in the María Conchita (Cucuruama) block, located in Colombia’s La Guajira region in the north of the country.
