Turkiye’s pistachio export was $181.1 million in 2022

A revenue of $181 million 133 thousand was obtained from pistachio exports from Turkiye to 104 countries in 2022.

Pistachio, which is among the constant tastes of Turkish cuisine in almost every field from desserts to meals, from chocolate to cookies, is mostly grown in Sanliurfa and Gaziantep.

According to the information compiled by AA correspondent from the data of Southeastern Anatolia Exporters’ Association, $208 million 371 thousand worth of pistachios were exported in 2021.

Last year, $181 million 133 thousand were obtained in return for the export of 19 thousand 138 tons of pistachios to 104 countries including Italy, Germany, Kyrgyzstan, Netherlands, Product, United Arab Emirates, Sweden, People’s Republic of China, Qatar, Singapore, Nigeria, Malaysia, Japan, Cuba, Senegal and Ireland.

Italy is one of the countries that Turkiye exports the most pistachios to. Turkiye sold pistachios worth $37 million 118 thousand to Italy last year. Germany followed Italy with $29 million 751 thousand and Kyrgyzstan with $15 million 858 thousand.

Increasing the number of trees will increase the yield

Sanliurfa Commodity Exchange Council President Isa Kizildemir told Anadolu Agency (AA) that pistachios are an important agricultural product for Southeastern farmers, especially Sanliurfa and Gaziantep.

Stating that pistachio contributes significantly to the Turkish economy, Kizildemir said:

“Because pistachio is a high-yielding agricultural product, it brings benefits to both the producer, the industrialist and the exporter. Despite the fact that this important agricultural product was ‘available’ last year, there was a decrease in yield all over Turkiye due to climatic conditions, but our exports continued. With the increasing number of trees in our region, we expect the pistachio harvest to double in the coming periods and this situation will bring the export figures to more serious dimensions.”
