Turkey: Foreign trade index data for September announced

Turkish Statistical Institute announced the foreign trade index data for September. Export unit value index increased by 11.8% and import unit value index increased by 23.4% in September compared to the same month of the previous year.

Export unit value index increased by 11.8% in September compared to the same month of the previous year. Compared to the same month of the previous year, the index increased by 7.6% in food, beverages and tobacco, by 24.6% in raw materials (excluding fuel), by 75.2% in fuels and by 10.2% in the manufacturing industry (excluding food, beverages, tobacco).

Export unit value index increased by 12.7% in the third quarter of 2021 compared to the third quarter of the previous year.

EXPORT AMOUNT INDEX INCREASED 16.3%

Export quantity index increased by 16.3% in September compared to the same month of the previous year. Compared to the same month of the previous year, the index increased by 10.8% in food, beverages and tobacco, by 22.4% in raw materials (excluding fuel), by 23.0% in fuels and by 16.9% in the manufacturing industry (excluding food, beverages, tobacco).

The export quantity index increased by 15.0% in the third quarter of 2021 compared to the third quarter of the previous year.

IMPORT UNIT VALUE INDEX INCREASED BY 23.4%

The import unit value index increased by 23.4% in September compared to the same month of the previous year. Compared to the same month of the previous year, the index increased by 20.2% in food, beverages and tobacco, by 62.2% in raw materials (excluding fuel), by 65.3% in fuels and by 18.5% in the manufacturing industry (excluding food, beverages, tobacco).

The import unit value index increased by 26.6% in the third quarter of 2021 compared to the third quarter of the previous year.

IMPORT AMOUNT INDEX DECREASED BY 9.2%

Import quantity index decreased by 9.2% in September compared to the same month of the previous year. Compared to the same month of the previous year, the index increased by 38.6% in food, beverages and tobacco, by 0.2% in fuels and by 0.1% in the manufacturing industry (excluding food, beverages and tobacco), raw materials (excluding fuel) decreased by 10.5%.

The import quantity index decreased by 7.4% in the third quarter of 2021 compared to the third quarter of the previous year.

SEASONAL AND CALENDAR ADJUSTED EXPORT AMOUNT INDEX DECREASED BY 1.0%

According to the series adjusted for seasonal and calendar effects: The export quantity index, which was 149.1 in August 2021, decreased by 1.0% to 147.7 in September 2021. According to the calendar-adjusted series, the export quantity index, which was 129.3 in September 2020, increased by 16.3% and became 150.4 in September 2021.

SEASONAL AND CALENDAR ADJUSTED IMPORT AMOUNT INDEX DECREASED BY 3.2%

According to the seasonally and calendar adjusted series, the import quantity index, which was 110.0 in August 2021, decreased by 3.2% and became 106.5 in September 2021. According to the calendar-adjusted series, the import quantity index, which was 117.1 in September 2020, decreased by 9.2% and became 106.3 in September 2021.

FOREIGN TRADE LIMIT REALIZED AS 88.4 IN SEPTEMBER 2021

The terms of trade, which was calculated by dividing the export unit value index by the import unit value index and which was obtained as 97.5 in September 2020, decreased by 9.1 points to 88.4 in September 2021.

In the third quarter of 2021, the terms of foreign trade decreased by 11 points compared to the same period of the previous year and became 89.4.
