Detailed overview of the investment ecosystem and exits in Turkiye in the last 10 years

Ventures & Beyond, a company that provides consultancy services for the entrepreneurial world, has prepared a report focusing on the startup and investment ecosystem in our country. In this news, we will share with you the details of the ecosystem report prepared by Ventures & Beyond and covering the years 2013 and 2022. The ecosystem report contains detailed data on exit types, fund types, exit timings, sectors and exit processes.

Covering a period of 10 years, the report presents the details of 106 investor exits in total. According to the information in the report, 70% of the exits in our country occur with acquisitions and mergers. Mergers and acquisitions are followed by the sale of the company to another investor with 13%, takeovers with 9% and public offerings with 8%.

When we look at the data revealed by the examination of exits, we see that the majority of venture investments in our country come from Venture Capital and Micro VCs. 43% of investments were made by Micro VCs and 42% by venture capital firms.

Third on the list is Corporate Venture Capital, that is, corporate venture capital companies. According to the information in the report, the average exit time of the investments made is 3.5 years. Let’s add that the fastest exit in a 10-year period is in 1 year, and the longest exit in 10 years.

When we look at the sectors with the most exits, we see e-commerce in the first place with 18%. The e-commerce sector is followed by fintech with 17%, data – analysis with 9%, SaaS with 7%, cyber security with 5%, HRtech with 5%, games with 4%, health technologies with 4% and logistics with 4%.

Let’s also remind that the last two years have been very busy in terms of exits. According to the information in the report, 2021 was the year with the most exits. In the last two years, a total of 62 exits occurred in the entrepreneurship sector in our country. To compare, there were 44 exits in total between 2013 and 2019.

35% of these exits occur at the seed stage. The seed stage is followed by the early stage and the A series investment round stages, respectively.
