Domestic Sales and Exports Decline in White Goods Sector: Production Drops 7% in First Five Months

The Turkish white goods sector experienced a contraction in both domestic and export markets during the first five months of 2025. According to data released by the Turkish White Goods Manufacturers’ Association (TÜRKBESD), total production in the six main product categories declined by 7% year-on-year to 13.08 million units.

Domestic sales fell by 11% to 4.31 million units compared to the same period last year, while exports decreased by 4% to 8.68 million units. The combined sales volume (domestic and exports) dropped 6% to 12.99 million units.

In May alone, the sector saw a sharper slowdown. Domestic sales declined by 14% to 841,000 units, while exports fell 15% to 1.79 million units. Overall sales volume for the month contracted 14% year-on-year to 2.63 million units. Production in May dropped significantly, down 23% to 2.62 million units.

“Strategic Measures Are Necessary”

In its Beyaz Dünya bulletin, TÜRKBESD noted that the industry continues to face weakened demand in both domestic and international markets. Global economic volatility, persistent inflation, and a general slowdown in consumer demand were cited as key factors limiting sector growth.

“These figures clearly indicate that the current period requires careful and strategic steps for our industry,” the bulletin stated. “At TÜRKBESD, we remain focused on improving efficiency, sustainability, and strengthening exports. To stay competitive globally, we reiterate the need for innovative and constructive policies.”
