Downloads of Bing used with ChatGPT integration increased 10x

Excitement is building around Microsoft’s plan to develop its search engine, Bing, with AI-powered capabilities similar to OpenAI’s ChatGPT. The news sparked a surge in the popularity of the Bing app, pushing it to the top of the App Store charts for the first time in years. According to data.ai estimates, new downloads of the Bing app have increased tenfold worldwide.

The growing interest in Bing shows that there is a clear consumer demand for these AI-powered experiences and users are willing to try new search engines and crawlers to gain access. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella talked about new Bing plans, including the integration of OpenAI’s language model with the company’s services.

This new addition will provide users with a ChatGPT-like experience on the search engine, helping them chat with an AI chatbot for more complex queries and content creation tasks like writing a LinkedIn post. Microsoft has also introduced a new version of the Edge web browser with built-in artificial intelligence features in the sidebar for easy access.

While the new Bing is currently available, it’s in a limited preview phase. Users have to join a waiting list to try out new AI features. Microsoft has stated that millions of users will be accepting people on the waiting list over the next few weeks.

In addition, the company allows users to quickly log into the waiting list by setting Microsoft’s search engine as the default on their computers and scanning a QR code to install the Microsoft Bing app on their smartphones. This move from Microsoft shows that the company especially wants to get ahead of Google. These studies have enabled the application to rise rapidly in the App Store lists.

The spike in popularity of the Bing app shows the demand for artificial intelligence and the potential threat to Google. Google currently pays Apple billions of dollars each year to make it the default search engine in Safari. It is thought that Google could lose market share if a significant number of consumers switch to another web search app like Bing or Edge to try out new AI capabilities.
