Turkiye: Automotive sales continued their record streak

While the automobile and light commercial vehicle market grew by 55.9% in September this year to 96 thousand 793 units, this was recorded as the highest September of all time.

According to September data of the Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association (ODMD), Turkiye’s total sales of automobiles and light commercial vehicles increased by 64.8%in the January-September period of 2023 compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 857 thousand 575 units.

In the said period, automobile sales increased by 67% to 666 thousand 890 units, and light commercial vehicle sales increased by 57.2% to 190 thousand 685 units.

Looking at September this year, automobile and light commercial vehicle sales increased by 55.9% compared to September 2022, reaching 96 thousand 793. In September, automobile sales increased by 76.7% compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching 78 thousand 971 units, while light commercial vehicle sales increased by 2.4% and reached 17 thousand 822.

Automobile and light commercial vehicle sales increased by 58.1%, automobile sales by 69.3% and light commercial vehicle sales by 22.1% compared to the 10-year average sales in September.

Sales by segment and body types

In the January-September 2023 period, 88.9% of the market was made up of vehicles in segments A, B and C, which have low tax rates. C segment cars had a 55.3% share with 368 thousand 503 units, and B segment cars had a 32.7% share with 217 thousand 978 units.

When the automobile market is evaluated according to body types, the most preferred body type is SUV cars with a share of 50.5%. SUV cars were followed by sedans with a share of 26.8% and hatchback cars with a share of 20.5%.

Togg deliveries reached 5 thousand 604 units

During the said period, the share of automatic transmission cars in total sales was 80.3%, while the share of manual transmission cars was 19.7%.

According to the light commercial vehicle market body type, the van body type was the most preferred body type with a share of 78.1%, while the pickup truck body type ranked second with a share of 9%.

When we look at the sales numbers of the brands, Togg has introduced 2 thousand 204 T10X units to users in September alone, and 5 thousand 604 units since May, when the delivery started.
