€80.7 billion contribution to the Turkish economy from Istanbul Airport

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoglu announced that since the opening of Istanbul Airport, it has contributed €80.7 billion to the economy.

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoglu shared an infographic on the economic effects of Istanbul Airport, which was opened on October 29, 2019, on his Twitter account.

Pointing out that Istanbul Airport, which has an investment amount of €10.25 billion, was built “without any money coming out of the state’s coffers”, Karaismailoglu said, “The total rent to be received is €26 billion. Since its opening, its contribution to the economy is €80.7 billion. A total of €117 billion gains for Turkiye with zero spending.”

According to the infographic in Karaismailoglu’s share, Istanbul Airport contributed €23.75 billion to national income, €51.3 billion to production, €4.2 billion to exports and €1.23 billion to taxes, while its impact on employment was 972 thousand.

With Istanbul Airport, a total of €246.4 million were saved, including €84.3 million in time, €56.5 million from fuel, €7.8 million from the environment and €97.8 million from other items.
