Eastern Black Sea Region Achieves $933.6 Million in Exports for First Half of 2024

Export Growth Driven by Rising Demand in Russia, Italy, and Germany; Hazelnuts Lead the Charge

The Eastern Black Sea region, encompassing Trabzon, Rize, Artvin, and Gumushane, recorded exports totaling $933.6 million from January to July 2024. The top five export destinations were the Russian Federation, Italy, Germany, Georgia, and China. Saffet Kalyoncu, Chairman of the Eastern Black Sea Exporters Association, announced a 9% increase in exports compared to the same period last year.

Kalyoncu highlighted that Trabzon led the region with $721.8 million in exports, followed by Rize with $122.6 million, Artvin with $49.8 million, and Gumushane with $39.4 million. Notably, Trabzon saw an 8% increase, Artvin 28%, and Gumushane 51%, while Rize maintained its previous year’s export levels. The region exported to 135 countries, with hazelnuts being the top export sector, generating $442.8 million.
