The EBRD, an international finance institution, will be supporting Team Agro’s geothermal-heated tomato greenhouse in Aksaray, Türkiye with a $30 million loan.
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is supporting greenhouse projects in Türkiye that will be heated with geothermal energy. The bank will provide a loan of approximately $30 million for the geothermal greenhouse project that Team Agro Gida Sanayi ve Ticaret AS will establish in Aksaray for tomato production.
Team Agro holds a geothermal resource exploration license for over 14,000 hectares in the Hasandagi region of Aksaray and produces tomatoes using soilless agriculture methods on a 155-hectare area. This investment aims to produce sustainably using renewable energy and modern agricultural techniques. The geothermal greenhouse will focus on increasing efficiency, saving water, and reducing the carbon footprint through methods such as soilless farming and drip irrigation.
Team Agro CEO Selim Ogul stated that the project aims to create new opportunities for food security, environmental management, and women in agriculture.EBRD representative Natalia Zhukova emphasized that sustainable agricultural projects are an important step toward innovation and environmental resilience.
The geothermal greenhouse project is expected to save approximately 18,540 tons of carbon emissions and 655,875 cubic meters of water annually.
