European Central Bank (ECB) Executive Board Member Olli Rehn said the ECB must take bold measures to ensure the euro becomes a “credible global anchor of stability.”
Speaking at a monetary policy conference in Helsinki on Tuesday, Rehn, who also serves as Governor of the Bank of Finland, stressed the importance of reinforcing the euro’s international role.
His remarks echoed those of ECB President Christine Lagarde, who in June underlined the need to consolidate the euro’s global position amid rising trade wars and growing protectionism.
“A strategic reassessment and bold moves are needed to help make the global monetary system more balanced,” Rehn told the conference.
