According to the information compiled by the AA correspondent from the Southeastern Anatolia Exporters’ Association data, $10 million 549 thousand worth of chili pepper exports were made from Turkiye to 104 countries in 2022.

Chili pepper exports, which were $6 million 812 thousand in the January-September period last year, increased by approximately 27% to $8 million 624 thousand in the same period this year.

In the past 9 months, 2,600 tons of chili peppers were sent to 94 countries, including Saudi Arabia, the USA, Iraq, France, Russia, Turkmenistan, the United Arab Emirates, Dubai, the People’s Republic of China, Malta, Japan, Cuba and Morocco.

On a country basis, Germany ranked first in chili pepper exports with $1 million 407 thousand. This country was followed by the Netherlands with $1 million 76 thousand and the United Kingdom with $1 million 61 thousand.

“We believe that our export figures will rise higher by the end of the year.”

Sanliurfa Commodity Exchange Assembly President Isa Kizildemir stated to the AA correspondent that it is pleasing that chili pepper exports will continue to increase in 2023.

Stating that the importance of agricultural production is increasing day by day, Kizildemir stated that the local farmers continue to contribute to the country’s economy by converting their land into production.

Kizildemir stated that the increase in chili pepper exports was welcomed by both producers and exporters in Sanliurfa, the city identified with hot peppers in Turkiye, and said:

“Chili pepper exports from Turkiye continued to increase in 2022; this momentum was maintained well in 2023. Our new crop products have been released to the market, and we believe that our export figures will rise much higher by the end of the year and there will be foreign exchange inflow to our country’s economy. Many exporting companies sell these chili peppers produced in Sanliurfa and the Southeast to many countries around the world. We think that if our farmers cultivating pepper are supported, as is the case with many agricultural products, the increased production figures will also be reflected in exports. We want our chili pepper to be used in the cuisine of more countries in the coming period.”
