Electric car sales gained momentum and increased by 469.4%

In the first two months of the year, more electric cars were sold than the total of the first 6 months of the previous year.

Automobile and light commercial vehicle sales increased by 50.4% in the first 2 months of this year compared to the same period of 2022.

In the said period, automobile sales increased by 44.3% to 96 thousand 195, and light commercial vehicle sales increased by 69.7% to 35 thousand 847.

Electric car sales increased by 469.4%

In the Turkish automobile market, in the first 2 months of this year, gasoline cars took the first place with 65 thousand 457 sales, while diesel cars took the second place with 16 thousand 82 units.

Hybrid car sales were recorded as 10 thousand 96 units and autogas automobile sales as 2 thousand 83 units.

Electric car sales surpassed auto gas car sales with 2,477. In the first 2 months of this year in the Turkish automobile market, more than 2,263 electric cars were sold, which is the sum of the first 6 months of last year.

In the said period, electric car sales increased by 469.4% and hybrid car sales increased by 94%.

New electric models keep coming

Many brands offered their ambitious models, which they announced before, for sale in the Turkish market during the year.

In addition, Chinese companies continue to show interest in the Turkish market. In addition to the Skywell brand, the electric models of Chery, which has returned to Turkiye, are expected to be on the roads of Turkiye.

In addition to electric cars, the number of hybrid motor cars, which are another part of electric mobility, is also increasing.

The data and developments pointed out that the share of electric and hybrid cars, which are becoming widespread in the world, from the Turkish automobile market is at low levels. Although it is low in terms of units, the growth rate of sales reveals the interest of consumers in electric cars.

The market share of “green cars” is expected to increase further with Togg entering the market in 2023 and developments in the world.
