President Recep Tayyip Erdogan issued a message in celebration of May 19 Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day, marking the 106th anniversary of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s arrival in Samsun to launch the Turkish War of Independence. In his message, Erdogan emphasized Türkiye’s determination to carry forward the legacy of the Republic and empower the youth as key drivers of national progress.
“Today marks the 106th anniversary of the day when the founder of our Republic, Gazi Mustafa Kemal, set foot in Samsun to launch our War of Independence. I sincerely congratulate you on May 19 Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day. The day, gifted by Gazi Mustafa Kemal to Turkish youth, represents the beginning of our ancestors’ struggle for independence, which they undertook with faith, determination, and perseverance,” Erdogan said.
He continued:
“We are protecting our homeland and Republic, sacred trusts passed down from our ancestors, and we are taking steps to advance and elevate the Republic of Türkiye, which will endure forever. We see our youth not only as the architects of the future but also as the driving force of transformation. I wholeheartedly believe that with the energy, determination, and dreams of the youth who carry our civilizational heritage in their hearts, they will mark this era with the vision of the ‘Century of Türkiye’.”
President Erdogan stressed that his administration is working to eliminate every obstacle that wastes the energy of the youth or drains the country’s resources in unproductive debates, aiming to leave behind a peaceful, prosperous, and high-tech Türkiye for the next generation.
“We are offering opportunities for our youth to discover their potential in every field—from science to the arts, sports to agriculture, diplomacy to nuclear technologies. To realize the vision of a strong and great Türkiye, we are walking hand in hand with our youth.”
Erdogan affirmed continued support for young people who strive to turn their dreams into reality and elevate the legacy inherited from their ancestors:
“We will fully support every young person who works with determination and refuses to give up in order to carry forward the civilizational legacy left by their ancestors. As Türkiye grows stronger and reinforces its position as a central power, we will always recognize the role of our youth in every national success and keep alive our motivation to work harder for them.”
He concluded by honoring Türkiye’s founding leaders:
“With these sentiments, I once again celebrate May 19 Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day, and respectfully commemorate Gazi Mustafa Kemal, the founder of our Republic, along with all the heroes of our War of Independence.”
