Euro Leads Weekly Gains as Turkish Stocks Post Biggest Loss

ISTANBUL — The euro was the best-performing investment instrument in Türkiye last week, while stocks traded on Borsa Istanbul recorded the biggest decline among major investment assets.

The BIST 100 index fell 3.48% on a weekly basis, closing at 13,458.10 points. During the week, the index traded between a low of 13,216.16 and a high of 14,085.39.

Gold prices decline

The price of 24-carat bullion gold traded in Istanbul’s Grand Bazaar fell 0.50% during the week to TRY 6,154 per gram.

The selling price of a Republic gold coin declined 0.57% to TRY 40,263, while the price of a quarter gold coin fell 0.66% to TRY 10,103.

Euro outperforms dollar

The euro gained 1.22% against the Turkish lira over the week, rising to TRY 54.5180, making it the strongest-performing major investment instrument.

The U.S. dollar increased 0.38% to TRY 47.5260.

Investment and pension funds also decline

Investment funds lost 1.34% during the week, while pension funds declined 1.55%.

Among investment fund categories, money market funds delivered the strongest performance, gaining 0.76% over the week.
