European Investment Bank Provides €200 Million in Financing for Türkiye’s Green Transition

ISTANBUL, June 10, 2026 — Türkiye has secured €200 million in financing from the European Investment Bank (EIB) to support the country’s green transformation agenda, according to information released by the Ministry of Treasury and Finance. The funding will be directed toward sustainable industrial investments and environmentally focused export projects.

Under two separate financing agreements backed by a Treasury repayment guarantee, the EIB will provide:

  • €100 million to the Türkiye Development and Investment Bank (TKYB) for sustainable industrial investments.
  • €100 million to Türk Eximbank to finance green projects undertaken by Turkish exporters.

The funds are intended to support investments in renewable energy, energy efficiency, sustainable manufacturing, and other green industrial initiatives, in line with Türkiye’s climate commitments and long-term green growth strategy. Authorities said the financing is expected to strengthen the competitiveness of both the industrial sector and exporters as they adapt to international sustainability standards.

With the latest agreements, Türkiye’s total volume of concessional external financing secured in 2026 has reached approximately $4.9 billion, highlighting continued access to international development funding despite challenging global financial conditions.

Şimşek: Support for Türkiye Is Increasing

Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek said cooperation with the European Investment Bank has continued to strengthen and that support for Türkiye’s development-focused projects is expanding. He noted that the improving relationship between Türkiye and the European Union is beginning to produce tangible results in external financing.

Şimşek also emphasized that, apart from financing provided for post-earthquake reconstruction efforts in 2023, the EIB has resumed offering favorable financing opportunities for Türkiye’s development priorities after an eight-year hiatus.

Strengthening Green Investment and Trade

The financing package is expected to accelerate investments in low-carbon production, renewable energy projects, and energy-efficient technologies while helping Turkish exporters meet increasingly stringent environmental requirements in international markets. Analysts view the funding as a positive step toward supporting sustainable economic growth and modernization of the country’s industrial base.
