Negotiations accelerated with TURKSAT 5B for satellite service export

TURKSAT Inc. General Manager Hasan Huseyin Ertok said, “TURKSAT 5B is an investment that will meet the broadband satellite data and internet needs of our country and region in the coming years. We are in talks with many companies regarding this.”

Turksat Inc. General Manager Hasan Huseyin Ertok stated that the TURKSAT 5B satellite will be put into service this summer. Ertok stated that the satellite will meet the broadband satellite data and internet needs of Turkey as well as the Middle East and Africa regions, and that they have held talks with satellite and telecommunication operators in different countries about providing service over TURKSAT 5B.

Aiming to be one of the world’s leading operators in the field of satellite, Turksat showcased its products and services at the Satellite 2022 Fair held in Washington, the capital of the USA.

Turksat took its place at the fair with the company’s SOTM (Satcom On The Move) antennas, HidrON, TerrON, and AerON’s half-row portable Manpack solution MicrON, which provide economical and uninterrupted service via satellite for sea and land vehicles.

Turksat will also hold talks on domestic products with the 5th generation communication satellite TURKSAT 5A, which was put into service last year, and TURKSAT 5B, Turkey’s most powerful satellite, which will be put into service in the summer of this year. TURKSAT plans to increase its effectiveness in target markets, especially with its domestic and national products, and to go beyond the borders with new projects to be realized abroad, by opening up to new markets.

TURKSAT 5B IS EXPECTED TO REACH ORBIT IN MAY

Turksat Inc. General Manager Ertok made evaluations about the company’s products and satellite studies at the fair, to the AA correspondent in Washington, where he came for Satellite 2022.

Stating that they participated in the Satellite 2022 Fair together with Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAS) and Profen operating in the satellite and space sector, Ertok noted that taking part in the said fair is of great importance for them.

Ertok said, “It is a fair where all the stakeholders in the satellite and space sector in the world take part. That’s why we attach great importance. We think that it is very beneficial for the promotion of both our companies and our country.”

Ertok stated that they will mainly be promoting the TURKSAT 5B satellite and meeting with customers within the scope of Satellite 2022 Fair. “Our TURKSAT 5B satellite is currently continuing its orbital maneuvers, its journey in 42 degrees east orbit, and will reach its orbit at the end of May. At the end of the tests, we aim to put the TURKSAT 5B satellite into service by mid-July.”

“TURKSAT 5B IS AN INVESTMENT THAT WILL MEET THE BROADBAND SATELLITE DATA AND INTERNET NEEDS OF OUR COUNTRY AND REGION”

Reminding that the TURKSAT 5A satellite was also put into service last year, Hasan Huseyin Ertok continued as follows:

“Our activities regarding the TURKSAT 5A satellite also continue. TURKSAT 5A provides service in Ku-Band at 31 degrees east orbit. Our TURKSAT 5B satellite is very important to us. In particular, it is a satellite with Ka-Band capacity, broadband internet capacity over 55 Gbps. Our current TURKSAT 4B satellite has a capacity of approximately 15 times the capacity. TURKSAT 5B is an investment that will meet the broadband satellite data and internet needs of our country and region in the coming years. We are in talks with many companies regarding this issue. Since we have a significant coverage area outside of Turkey, we are in talks with satellite and telecommunication operators in different countries to provide service over our TURKSAT 5B satellite. We are holding our meetings here, and we aim to make significant progress on this issue.”

Noting that the TURKSAT 5B satellite covers countries outside of Turkey, especially in the Middle East and Africa band, Ertok noted that they aim to meet with the satellite operators of the countries in these regions.

COOPERATION POTENTIALS WITH COMPANIES LIKE STARLINK, ONEWEB

Pointing out that the number of satellite manufacturer companies placed in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) around the world has increased considerably, Ertok explained that there are various cooperation talks regarding these, and Starlink and OneWeb companies are among these companies.

Ertok stated that they are investigating their potential for cooperation and said, “We are a regional satellite operator, but we are negotiating with such satellite operators in order to be global. In addition, we are negotiating to market our capacities and the services we offer via satellite.”

THE FIRST NATIONAL COMMUNICATIONS SATELLITE TURKSAT 6A IS TARGET TO LAUNCH IN THE FIRST HALF OF 2023

Ertok also gave information about Turkey’s first national communication satellite, TURKSAT 6A, and said:

“Works on the production of TURKSAT 6A in Ankara and on the flight model are continuing. Studies and tests on the engineering model have been completed, and they are fully focused on the flight model. We expect TURKSAT 6A to be launched in the first half of next year, our work in this direction continues. Regarding the launch, we signed our contract with SpaceX company in the past months. In the first half of next year, we aim to complete the production and tests of the satellite, and to deliver and launch it to us.”

Turkey’s new satellite, TURKSAT 5B, was successfully launched into space on 19 December 2021 from Cape Canaveral Base in Florida, USA. The TURKSAT 5B communication satellite, which is the most powerful of the Turksat satellite fleet with its payload capacity and power values, was sent into space with the Falcon 9 rocket belonging to Space X company.
