Eurelectric, a Brussels-based organization representing over 3,500 enterprises involved in electricity generation, distribution, and supply across the European energy sector, published data on the EU’s electricity production for the first half of the year.
According to this data, the EU countries achieved their “greenest” electricity production to date. Europe set a record for electricity generation from clean sources.
In the first half of 2024, 74% of the electricity produced in the EU came from renewable and low-carbon energy sources.
During this period, renewable sources such as solar and wind accounted for more than 50% of the total electricity production in Europe.
Nuclear energy contributed 24% of the electricity production.
The share of natural gas in electricity production was approximately 13%, while coal accounted for around 9%.
In 2023, the share of renewable and low-carbon energy sources in the EU’s electricity production was 68%.
