Expropriation Decision Taken for TPAO Fields in Four Turkish Provinces

May 3, 2026 – Ankara

Türkiye has approved the expropriation of certain land parcels in four provinces for energy projects led by the state-owned oil company, Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO).

According to decisions published in the Official Gazette, the General Directorate of Mining and Petroleum Affairs (MAPEG), under the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, authorized the expropriation of lands located in Tekirdağ, Istanbul, Kırklareli, and Adıyaman.

Land Needed for Oil Operations

The decision covers various parcels in:

  • Ergene district of Tekirdağ
  • Silivri district of Istanbul
  • Lüleburgaz district of Kırklareli

These lands are considered necessary for petroleum operations and deemed to be in the public interest. Authorities noted that the properties could not be acquired through negotiation due to price disputes, leading to compulsory expropriation following urgent seizure decisions.

Pipeline Projects Also Included

In addition to drilling-related activities, the decision also includes land required for planned oil and natural gas pipeline projects within TPAO’s licensed fields in Tekirdağ, Adıyaman, and Kırklareli.

Strategic Energy Move

Officials emphasized that the move is part of broader efforts to support Türkiye’s energy sector and ensure uninterrupted exploration and production activities. The projects are expected to contribute to infrastructure development and energy security.
