A new facility has been commissioned in Türkiye to produce lithium borate compounds domestically, reducing the country’s dependence on imports of a material widely used by the cement and glass industries.
The TENMAK BOREN Lithium Borate Salts Production Facility was established by the Türkiye Energy, Nuclear and Mineral Research Agency (TENMAK) as part of efforts to localize the production of lithium borate compounds and reduce the country’s current account deficit.
Türkiye requires approximately 8.5 to 10 tons of lithium borate compounds annually, much of which has previously been imported. The material is used primarily in the cement and glass industries.
5-ton production capacity
The newly commissioned facility has a production capacity of 5 tons, marking an important step toward meeting domestic demand through local production.
The Energy and Natural Resources Ministry said the project is part of broader efforts to increase the use of domestic resources and reduce Türkiye’s dependence on imported industrial inputs.
By producing lithium borate compounds domestically, the facility is expected to support the cement and glass sectors while contributing to efforts to reduce the country’s current account deficit.
The facility was commissioned on August 22, 2026.
