More than 205 million passengers traveled at Istanbul Airport since 2018

Since 29 October 2018, 1 million 417 thousand flights have been performed at Istanbul Airport, 205 million 365 thousand passengers have traveled.

In his written statement, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoglu underlined that they have built bridges to the sky with their investments in the aviation sector, emphasizing that Turkiye is a leading global aviation center in Europe in the field of aviation.

Karaismailoglu stated that they are working with all their strength to reach these days and that they have increased the number of airports from 26 to 57. Pointing out that one of the vision projects they have implemented is Istanbul Airport, Karaismailoglu drew attention to the fact that the airport, which was opened by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on October 29, 2018, has written its name with golden letters in the history of aviation in Turkiye and the world with its many features.

“1 million 417 thousand flights were carried out”

Minister Karaismailoglu stated that 38 thousand 888 flights took place in January, 35 thousand 561 flights in February, 39 thousand 396 flights in March, 40 thousand 734 flights in April and 44 thousand 31 flights in May.

“In the January-May period, a total of 198 thousand 610 flights were carried out, of which 147 thousand 502 on international flights and 51 thousand 108 on domestic routes. In the same period, we hosted a total of 28 million 893 thousand passengers, 22 million 205 thousand on international flights and 6 million 688 thousand on domestic flights, at Istanbul Airport. Maintaining its place at the top, Istanbul Airport has carried out 1 million 417 thousand flights since its opening, while 205 million 365 thousand passengers have traveled.”

Stating that Istanbul Airport, which has made a name for itself with records, also comes to the fore with the service it provides, Karaismailoglu emphasized that the baggage claim time, which takes hours in Europe, is limited to minutes at Istanbul Airport, while the check-in time takes only 1 minute.

“Next generation investments will reach $198 billion by 2053”

Karaismailoglu said, “Competition in the world civil aviation sector is increasing rapidly. We are following the sector closely in order to get a bigger share from this market and we are making our investments in line with our targets. We are completing our 2035 and 2053 visions today, with the goal of planned and sustainable growth and a stronger Turkiye for the youth. The new generation investments we will make in the field of transportation and communication will reach $198 billion by 2053.”
