Foreign Investors Sell Turkish Stocks, Shift Into Bonds

Foreign investors sold $185.9 million worth of Turkish equities last week while increasing their holdings of government bonds, according to the latest weekly securities statistics released by the Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye (CBRT).

According to the data, overseas residents sold $185.9 million in equities and $129.9 million in securities issued by sectors other than the general government (OST) during the week. At the same time, they purchased $164 million worth of Turkish government domestic debt securities (DİBS).

Foreign Demand Shifts Toward Government Bonds

The figures point to a shift in foreign investor preferences away from Turkish equities and toward government debt instruments.

While foreign investors reduced their exposure to the stock market, their purchases of government bonds indicate continued interest in Turkish lira-denominated fixed-income assets.

The latest data provide an important snapshot of foreign capital flows into Turkish financial markets and will be closely monitored by investors for signs of changing risk appetite toward Turkish assets.
