France Notes Turkey’s Striking Progress in Defense Exports

PARIS — The French Ministry of Armed Forces has reported that Turkey has made remarkable progress in defense product exports in recent years, according to the country’s 2025 Defense Export Report submitted to Parliament.

The report highlighted that the global arms market has undergone significant changes in recent years, with the competitive landscape evolving beyond traditional exporters such as the United States, Russia, and Germany.

It emphasized that emerging players — including China, South Korea, and Turkey — are becoming increasingly influential in the international defense market as they continue to develop and expand their defense industries.

According to the report, Turkey has achieved one of the most impressive advances among the world’s top ten defense exporters over the past decade, underscoring Ankara’s continued large-scale investments in the development of its defense industry.

“(The Turkish defense industry) set a new record in 2024 with an 80% increase in exports compared to 2023, driven primarily by numerous unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) contracts,” the report stated.

The findings reflect Turkey’s growing role as a major defense exporter, particularly in drone technology, where Turkish-made UAVs have gained strong international demand and recognition.
