Global computer sales fell 16.2% in 2022

It was reported that global computer sales fell 16.2% in 2022 compared to the previous year.

Computer sales last year fell 16.2% to 286.2 million units, compared to 2021, according to a report by research firm Gartner.

Computer sales were 65.3 million units in the last quarter of last year, down 28.5% compared to the same period of 2021. The decrease in computer sales in the last quarter was recorded as the highest since records began to be kept in 1990. This situation was evaluated as “the increase in laptop and desktop computers triggered by the Covid-19 epidemic has come to an end”.

According to the report, with 68 million 997 thousand, Chinese Lenovo (24.1% market share) was the world’s top computer seller last year. Hewlett-Packard ranked second with 55 million 558 thousand units (19.4% market share), Dell third with 50 million 7 thousand sales (17.5% market share), and Apple fourth with 27 million 911 thousand units (9.8% market share).

Gartner analyst Mikako Kitagawa noted that the prospect of global recession, rising inflation and higher interest rates are having a major impact on demand for computers. “Additionally, there are relatively new models that many consumers are still purchasing during the pandemic. Business customers are hesitant to make a purchase due to negative economic prospects.”
