Global crude steel production declined slightly in July, weighed down by lower output in China, the world’s largest steel producer. Türkiye, meanwhile, continued its growth trend, increasing crude steel production by 7% year-on-year.

According to data released by the World Steel Association (Worldsteel), global crude steel production fell 0.3% year-on-year in July to 149.2 million metric tons.

China’s Production Declines 3.6%

China’s crude steel production decreased 3.6% year-on-year to 76.9 million tons in July.

Among other major producers, India increased production by 1.9% to 14.4 million tons, while the United States posted a 4.4% increase to 7.4 million tons.

Japan’s production edged up 0.4% to 6.9 million tons. Russia’s estimated production rose 3.3% to 5.7 million tons, while South Korea increased output by 6.4% to 5.7 million tons.

Türkiye’s Steel Output Rises 7%

Türkiye recorded stronger growth compared with the global trend.

The country’s crude steel production increased 7% year-on-year to 3.4 million tons in July, maintaining its upward momentum.

Among the world’s top 10 steel producers, Vietnam recorded the strongest monthly increase, with production surging 34.7% to 2.7 million tons.

Germany’s estimated production rose 3% to 2.8 million tons, while Brazil’s output increased 0.1% to 2.8 million tons.

Global Production Exceeds 1 Billion Tons in Seven Months

Worldsteel data showed that global crude steel production totaled 1.0812 billion tons in the January-July period, down 0.6% compared with the same period last year.

The figures highlight a modest contraction in global steel production, largely driven by weaker output in China, while Türkiye has continued to expand production despite the broader global decline.
