Google brought the mobile game world together in Istanbul

Organized for the second time in Turkiye in cooperation with Google’s Deconstructor of Fun, the Istanbul Mobile Game Event focused on the past, present and future of the mobile game world, which has become a growing market in our country.

Istanbul Mobile Game Event, which takes the pulse of the mobile game world, brought together the important names of the game ecosystem with 12 sessions and 20 speakers. The event, which took place with the cooperation of Google and Deconstructor of Fun, focused on the new developments and curiosity of the game world throughout the day.

In the event attended by more than 600 guests from Turkiye and 50 different countries and followed by more than 800 people online, leading names of the industry such as Deconstructor of Fun and Savage Game Studios Founder Michail Katkoff, Savage Games General Manager Sophie Vo, Eric Kress, Matej Lancaric, Kim Nordström, Javier Barnes, Alpagut Locksmith, Josh Willner, Katie Funk, Varun Khanna and Pasha Nahass took part as speakers.

Michail Katkoff, Founder of Deconstructor of Fun and Savage Game Studios, and Sophie Vo, General Manager of Savage Games, opened the event by commemorating those who lost their lives in the disaster, conveying their condolences and best wishes to all of Turkiye due to the earthquakes. In his opening speech, Katkoff said that he hopes the Istanbul Mobile Game Event, which was held in Istanbul for the second time, will continue next year and turn into a traditional event, emphasizing that there are participants from all over the world at the event and underlined the importance of Istanbul for the gaming world once again.

“Turkiye ranks first in Europe with $333 million in game world investments”

Google Turkiye Retail and Technology Sector Leader Alpagut Cilingir, who gave a speech on the game world in a changing ecosystem, said that Turkiye is on the way to become an international center for game companies. Noting that Turkiye ranks first in Europe with $333 million in investments in the game ecosystem, he said that it ranks 4th in Europe in total entrepreneurship ecosystem investments. Regarding the changing dynamics of the mobile game world, Cilingir made the following statements: “The mobile game world market went into decline for the first time this year. This situation shows a similar momentum all over the world. However, the number of mobile games and players continues to increase day by day. There are over 120 million mobile players worldwide. The way to be successful in such an ecosystem is to be resilient, to create diversity in the game genre, to focus on brand power and to diversify the revenue model. As Google Turkiye, we continue to support our country to reach its potential and create international success stories, together with our Game and Application Academy, Game and Entrepreneurship Programs, Talent Development Bootcamps and projects in this field.”

“The future of the mobile game industry is to achieve sustainable growth”

Insights about the industry, the changing dynamics of the mobile gaming world and predictions for the future were shared at the Istanbul Mobile Game Event. While the current dynamics of the game world were touched upon by the speakers, what precautions could be taken by the industry players in the ever-changing environment and the issues that they should pay attention to were also discussed.

Josh Willner, Global Product Leader of Google App Ads Privacy and Measurement, describing Google’s role and work in privacy and metering issues, further underlined the importance of the privacy and security of user data. Varun Khanna, Product Leader of Google Global Mobile Application Ads, mentioned the importance of campaigns blended with artificial intelligence in sustainable growth, while Katie Funk, Google Global Game Industry Product Leader, talked about Google tools that developers can use to keep mobile gamers’ attention alive. Google Application Ads Product Manager Pasha Nahass said that according to 2021 data, mobile gaming industry revenues have the highest share in the market, with an increase of 4.4% compared to the previous year when compared to computer and console games, holding $90.7 billion of the total market. According to the data shared by Nahass, while smartphone users forget that even 75% of the applications they download to their phones exist, they continue to use only 37% of the applications 1 week after downloading the application.
