Halal accreditation period in the cosmetics industry

Zafer Soylu, Chairman of the Halal Accreditation Agency (HAK), stated that the Agency has started to include organizations that will certify cosmetic products as “halal” within the scope of accreditation.

Zafer Soylu, President of the Halal Accreditation Agency (HAK), made an assessment on the activities of the Agency in the field of halal cosmetics.

Stating that HAK has been providing accreditation services primarily to the organizations that make halal certification of food products since 2019, Soylu said that they have included more than 800 halal certificates for different product groups within the scope of accreditation.

Pointing out that halal certification is not limited to food products only, Soylu stated that there is a serious demand for halal certification, especially in the cosmetics industry.

In this context, Soylu drew attention to the fact that accreditation is the most powerful tool in order to carry out halal certification activities for cosmetic products by competent and impartial institutions and to provide an element of trust in this field. “Expanding the scope of halal accreditation for different product groups and application areas, HAK has started to include organizations that will certify their cosmetic products as halal within the scope of halal accreditation.”

“Accreditation will be given through inspections”

In this respect, Soylu stated that the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) was authorized to issue halal certificates for cosmetic products as a result of rigorous examinations and on-site inspections, and said:

HAK, which is the first and currently the only authority on a global basis to provide halal accreditation services according to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) / Islamic Countries Standards and Metrology Institute (SMIIC) approach for organizations that certify cosmetic products, will continue its inspections. As a result of these audits, it will continue to accredit domestic and foreign certification bodies that it has determined to meet the international standard requirements.
